Mickey Smith: a picspam

Jan 13, 2010 22:07

I wasn't sure what to do for my 100 days of CoC claim - obviously I snaffled up Mickey from Doctor Who, because I love him rather a lot and he doesn't get as much attention in fandom as I'd like, but after that, what to do? Fic or recs or fanmix or picspam or...

At which point I started looking at Sonic Biro's screencap gallery and fell into the swirling vortex of pictures of Mickey. This is exactly what happened last time I did this. You'd think I'd learn, really. But still, a picspam came out of it, so there's that.

(Warning: spoiler for The End of Time part 2 below the cut)

Reasons why Mickey is great #1: In his first story, Mickey got eaten by a comedy bin and his girlfriend didn't notice that he'd been replaced by an alien mannequin. In his second story, he blew up Ten Downing Street and saved the world. Fastest comic relief-to-badass turnaround ever? Possibly, though he still periodically got to be covered in gunge and sent to play with the safety scissors and glitter, as below.

#2: He does angst very, very nicely. This scene with the alternate universe version of his grandmother made me cry harder than anything else in New Who.

#3: As a fanfic writer and reader, I very much appreciate that he's shippable with everyone. Everyone.

Everyone. Really. Canon relationship with Rose, canon marriage with Martha, a forehead kiss from Ten, a very flirty hug from Jack, his trip to Paris with Jake and this deleted scene confirming Jake/Ricky were intended as a couple... and that's before you get into crack theories about how he's clearly the father of Jackie's baby, or the reason Sarah Jane feels compelled to say "Mr Smith, I need you," once an episode.

Best and most clearly canon Mickey ship, though? Mickey/Ricky. Oh yes.

#4: This would be higher up the list, but I like to maintain a pretence at depth: these pictures are from a folder on my computer labelled 'superhot'.

#5: He's geeky, funny, brave, loyal, smarter than he probably believes. He's travelled in the TARDIS and flown a zeppelin and worked for Torchwood and fought Slitheen and clockwork androids and Cybermen and Daleks. He starts off as the companion's nice-but-unexciting boyfriend and ends up as some kind of freelance aliens expert (and with a gorgeous lowercase-doctor of his own to have adventures with). All told, he probably gets my favourite arc of all the new companions, and I quite sincerely just think he's awesome.

Oh, and one time? He saved the world with a big yellow truck.
