Really Slow Gin

I am in the process of making sloe gin, I feel like Mrs Beeton or somebody. I've added a bottle of gin to the half pound of sloes I collected from Western Park yesterday along with some sugar. Now I have to shake it up everyday, add some almond essence in a fortnight, and then wait until Christmas when it'll be ready to drink. I'm quite excited ( Read more... )

i know, i'm like a domestic goddess or something! you most certainly can drink some, no doubt i'll be forcing it onto everyone at Christmas time! As for the facebook, i dunno if i can really be arsed, it took me long enough to get a livejournal, we shall see though.

Droooooool. I love sloe gin. Isn't it a bit early to be picking them, though? They're best picked after they're bletted (had the first frost on them) although I suppose you could compensate by adding extra sugar.

My dad hates gin, so he makes sloe vodka instead. The Philistine! It tastes ok, actually.

hmmmm well having never picked sloes before, i wouldn't know when the best time is, i just saw them on a bush and decided to go for it! the first frost might be ages away, and you have to leave it to steep for at least two months, and i want it ready for Christmas, sooooo, i'll let you know how it turns out!
