I read that and it gave me chills. What an awesome learning experience that was. Its amazing the lessons that even children can teach us. I use to live with a guy and he and his friends were VERY racist. One day they were all joking around about lifestyles of "black" people, and my nephew was over and sitting between all of them on the couch. I kept wanting to intervene and tell them to shut up, but I couldn't find the exact words to do it effectively. All of a sudden my nephew who was 8 at the time says, "Why should it matter if they are black"? Everyone's jaws dropped because they realized the message they were sending. One of the guys said that it shouldn't and they were all wrong for labeling anyone. I wish more people would listen to and watch some of the lessons that kids have to teach us.

That's very sweet, that little boy.

I was thinking about what your father-in-law said, and it's just so amazing (in a bad way). I have a friend who believes Bush is the best president we've ever had... I tried telling her as nicely as possible about some of the reasons I disagree. Among the things I mentioned to her were the prisoners at Abu Ghraib. You know what she told me? (Paraphrasing due to bad memory.) "I know this sounds cold, but I really don't care about that. They've done worse to us." Which might be debatable, but true or not, how does that make it okay? I don't even know what to say to her about that. If she were pagan, or if she were christian, I would remind her that this goes against everything those religions stand for. But she's not religious, and has said that she wishes religion was illegal. (Which is another reason that makes it weird to me that she's such a fan of Bush.)

People continue to surprise and disappointment, I'm afraid.
