A bit late to start a running diary, but perhaps this will keep me motivated.

8.5 mile run -- one central park loop; two-mile out-and-back (from 72nd to 90th); 0.5 miles to get to park.
Temperature was in low 70s.
Humidity around 30s.

Slow pace (maybe 9-9:30), but finished strong. Legs feel fine.

Having been to Urumqi and having relatives (who self-identify as Mongolian)who live there, I think the best way of understanding the riots is to think of New York in 1980s--the uighurs are in the role of the African American community and the Han chinese are the whites.

One of the nice things about slaving away for the Man is that I get health care insurance ... pretty good health care insurance, in fact, for free.    However, people shouldn't have to do what I do to get a good policy--it's not quite like working on a chain gang, but also something that most people would want to do.
