[Just kinda blinks a couple times. He knows what he saw, but he also knows what he felt. And the two together made less sense than Tsuzuki did]

[Javert is awake now, Kurosaki. He stares back unblinkingly. The silence extends for several seconds.]

Have you something to say?

[thinks for a moment]

You seem rather conflicted there.

[He barks a single, mirthless laugh]

Hardly.

[That morning had all the makings of becoming a very lovely and productive day for the woman until Naomi spied the Inspector's dream waiting oh so innocently on the Dreamberry for her to watch. She rarely wasted her precious time in observing other people's dreams, but Javert's always seemed to catch her interest on some level, and today's would certainly not disappoint.

Even before she felt the man's own emotions coming over the device, the woman was speechless, eyes wide in awe. He was recalling their wedding day, the event that had happened now nineteen years previously. Had it already been that long? And more importantly, did she really have memories spanning over nearly two decades that involved living together with a man she had only known for ten months? It seemed impossible, even in this place, but it was there, all laid out in front of her. He possessed the exact same memories that she had remembered upon waking. Fake or not, this was confirmation that there was some bit of truth to it ( ... )

[Once upon a time, Javert was more inclined to reach for a box of premium dry-roasted snuff than to light up a cigarette. Now he feels the opposite craving. After 30 false years of chain-smoking on fire escapes, it is difficult to break the habit. He subconsciously patted his pockets only to find them void of cigarette boxes. That ends that.

Instead, Javert places his palms flat on his table - or whatever hard surface he was using to peer into his Dreamberry - and raises an owlish, unblinking expression to Naomi.

He expected a response from his not-wife. This kind of response, however... Javert's gaze hardens as it sweeps over her face. Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned, and this time, the damage is deep, of the sort he can't remember experiencing in his alternative (false, he reminds himself) life. How annoying!

Inspector Javert's voice, though rushed and abrupt, remains at a level tone.]

Which part?

[It may have been unintentional, but the poor woman has been deeply hurt in her confusion over the dream. All she can conclude as of now is that Javert despised every moment of his marriage with her, right from the very beginning. After a slap to the face like that, her natural reaction is to lash back without restraint.]

Which part? Oh, don't act so stupid! You know exactly what I am talking about. [Her dark eyes may narrow threateningly, but her gaze doesn't once leave his own. If he wants a staring match, she will gladly glare through him all day long.]

Is that it, then, Inspector? Are you finished in your pathetic attempt to upset me?

[Normally, when someone displays anger toward him, Javert understands perfectly well why they are angry. This time, though, he's having a hard time judging exactly what is bothering her. This irritates him.]

What do you take me for? A schoolyard bully beating a dog with a stick!

[Javert casts an annoyed glance to the heavens, a fierce grimace on his face.]

Think! Why the hell would I need to upset you?

[Franziska is able to ignore the dark undertones of the dream easily, her focus purely on Javert making a fool out of himself in front of all of Somarium. While recent events (AU life, Edgeworth's return) have softened her slightly to the Inspector, she has yet to forgive him for the humiliation she suffered at by his hand.

She smirks.]

If you so foolishly speak in that way to her, I will assume that your wife slaps you often.

[Javert smirks sardonically. He is rarely pleased to hear from Edgeworth's acquaintance, particularly since their first meeting was not a cordial one. The woman is far too headstrong and aggressive for her own good.]

Perhaps.

If I were so inclined to take a wife.

So this was all just a foolish make believe fantasy crafted from your slipping mind?

I had no idea you were so lonely, Inspector Javert.

[Here, Javert barks a laugh] You! Accuse me of fantasy!

Have you forgotten your own wild accusations?

[This is just too much! Grell can barely control his laughter]

I didn't realize you were interested in women like that!!!

[Javert's hollow stare contrasts sharply with his cold smirk.]

The forces of Somni City believe otherwise.

Well, you must have some feelings for Naomi if you have a dream like that one!

[He smirks, this is just too much.]

You need to be careful with women like her!!

Unnecessary. She can stand some rough handling every now and then. That woman isn't as fragile as she looks.

[Akihiko gets a very distinct feeling that this isn't something he should've been watching. While it isn't inherently embarrassing, there's one thing he takes note of: the date.]

Sir?

[Even though he knows this dream is but a false memory and the events that followed a simple fabrication, he still feels dirty mentioning this... But he feels he needs to.]

...I was born in September.

[Javert simply stares at Akihiko. He is perfectly calm, one eyebrow mildly arched.]

[He raises his head]

And what of that godforsaken green-haired boy? His date?
