[A stranger calls him this time. Some good, kind-hearted and malleable young thing, it seems. Inspector Javert's intense and unsettling gaze searches her countenance for a moment.]
People put too much importance in dreams, Mademoiselle, [he says simply and with authority. It is not kind, but it is not harsh, either. A musing tone.] It is a waste of your time to worry on my behalf.
Back in my homeland, we give lots of attention to people's dreams. They can tell if someone is passing by some hard time or maybe if they are anxious about something big that's about to happen...
Have you been under a lot of stress lately mister?
[It's not her intention to be nosy or anything. She just wants to land a helping hand. And to do so, she has to know if that dream had any kind of 'origin'.]
[It is quite some time later into the day when Naomi Hunter has time to properly view and respond to Javert's newest dream. After spending her morning hours curled up against his side while he gruffly answered the usual annoying calls from the way too chipper residents of the city, the woman had become the slightest bit curious to see just what the fuss was about. Unfortunately, after having been woken up so early, she'd been forced to drag herself out of the warm comfort of her bed for a few early morning appointments. With a break between patients finally, she settles down in her lab with a cup of coffee and her Dreamberry.
It's a very...odd dream, even coming from Javert. Her own arrival coaxes an arch out of her slender eyebrow, but it's Dastan's off screen appearance that hits her hardest. It wouldn't happen outside of the man's dreams, and it couldn't happen really, but that doesn't make the situation any less unsettling. Just how deep is this little rivalry anyway
( ... )
[Luckily, Javert receives this message when it comes to be just about time for his midday break. He calls Naomi back fairly quickly, his eyes searching hers for earnestness, his mouth skewed downwards in genuine thought.]
We will see, [he says at last in a voice so low, quick, and distracted that it is difficult to tell if he is speaking directly to her or to some inward, unknown idea. He casts his lids down, a grimace blossoming on his lined face.]
[Now, isn`t that a bit of a compliment coming from this particular man?
The corners of her mouth upturn into a very slight smile as she returns his searching gaze. Naomi knows for a fact that Javert has been taking his medication, so she is just examining his face to see if his weariness seems any deeper than usual.
After a moment or so, she seems satisfied.]
Well, you have your own key for a reason. I`m sure it`s much easier for you to just come here instead of going all the way back to your place. [She teases him lightly.] And having you over is rarely any trouble for me.
[Javert rolls his eyes lightly. Yes, he has been (mostly) taking his medication. He has not been under that much unusual stress and duress. But if another Somarium crisis is looming around the corner, then there may be some legitimate cause for concern.]
No, it would not be much trouble for you. You enjoy luring me to your den, [he says with that same distracted tone. He relapses into a brief silence, beady eyes lifted to her yet again.]
[Charlie would be much more flattered at his co-staring role in his latest mentor's dream, if the dream itself had been a little less...chaotic. He also had to rewind the thing just to make sure he'd caught it all correctly.
And wow, Javert was a real lucky man.
It isn't much, but the Brit cracks a sheepish smile over at the man.] No indictments today, sir!
There had better not be, [says Javert dryly. He has just finished slipping into his boots at the side of his bed. He'll probably be out the door soon.] I do not see into the future with my dreams.
I don't think you have a single thing to worry about, mate. No one would be bloody stupid enough to think they could get away with accusing you of immoral action or corruption!
[...And unfortunately, he really can't help but ask,] Oi, so is that really your fiancee?
[Javert fixes a lengthy, unblinking, unreadable stare on Charlie, and it feels as if several minutes have passed (though truly it was, at most, thirty seconds) before he breaks the silence with a low, scoffing sigh.]
No. I have no one promised to me.
[Good luck figuring out what that tone of voice can possibly mean, Charlie.]
[Javert's hat is removed, and his head is tilted downwards in what looks like a humble fashion, save for his eyes. His eyes burn like a bird of prey's.
It is a long while before he speaks.]
Only if you take my dreams as evidence against my character, Mademoiselle. Though I must advise you not to consult me about my own termination. It is improper.

Well? Did you learn something new?

So it would seem you are not the master in charge of all then.
[Good to know. Very good to know.]

Where the devil did you got that impression? I do not fashion myself a ruler.

Anh, sir, are you OK?
[Really. That was wacky. She's definitely worried.]

[Javert grimaces slightly. She is a persistent young woman, isn't she?]
No. Not excessively.

I do not so much mind the current arrangements.

An indictment? Should I already begin to fill out the paperwork for the termination of your job, Inspector Javert?

[And finally, that hint of amusement seems to dissolve, the young woman's sharp features looking just as cold as ever.]
You understand that those kind of displays will not be tolerated while on government property or time.
[It should be more or obvious that she is speaking of Naomi provocatively rolling on the desk.]

I am aware of what is or is not permissible on government time.
