Unfortunately, I work 'the hours required to get the job done' :P But apparently our leave allowance compensates for this.

If any of the admin staff work overtime, they get paid for it... but I'm not sure how much (and they have less leave than the scientists).

I think senior staff here are paid extra for being on-call.

All this will be changing soon with the NHS 'Agenda for change', but I have no idea what we'll end up with once that's finally started...

I should have added, there are exceptions - when big case-control studies need to be carried out quickly, you can volunteer to help with administering questionnaires, and they'll pay overtime for evenings/weekends worked (plus they reimburse your phone calls if you do it from home)... again, can't remember how much the overtime is tho.

Try asking TheHattedOne's landlord - he's done a lot of on-call stuff over the years, and I seem to recall his compensation for it was pretty good the last time he told me about it.

(I work flexitime, so I effectively get time in lieu for even five minutes over my contracted hours. I love my job :-)
