Justifying your existence...

At work they have these meetings where staff have to justify their continued employment. You basically sit there and say exactly what it is you’re doing, how you’re contributing and why you feel your place in the company is justified ( Read more... )

Brutally efficient? Yeah, in its way. Preserving those who do a good job and can express it, but also those who can spin a good line in slick self-justification - those who're well-equipped to become upper-management sociopaths.

As you say: jeopardy as a way of life. Nice one, America.

I hate those meetings. We use to have them and I would be asked "what did you do?" and my answer would be "stuff." If there was something that needed to be done, I'd do it. A sign that I must of done it well because after I left, three people took over where there had been just me.

I use to find that amusing that the people who never did much would always give hugely detailed talks about what they've been doing where the people who had been going flat out tended to be like me and give vague responses.
