At work they have these meetings where staff have to justify their continued employment. You basically sit there and say exactly what it is you’re doing, how you’re contributing and why you feel your place in the company is justified

There was an episode of Red Dwarf that basically ran along those lines. The gist of it was that a killer cyborg from the future was traveling back through time, making everyone justify their existence. If they couldn't, he'd "erase" them and a different version of themselves would take their place (the idea being that a different sperm/egg combination would create a different version of the person.) I don't recall the exact name of the episode, but it was in the books too.
