Spotify have done it. I hated iTunes, we7, last.fm; but this is awesome. In the past few days, I've read nothing but good press ( Read more... )

Yup - let me know what you think. I think I'm a very cynical person (I accidently compared Obama to Hitler yesterday - long story) but this is amazing, especially as I know it's totally legal! (I push some buttons to make the music go from the record companies to them).

I know. "Future of music" is so cheesy, but really - this is just like Napster in 1999.

Ooh been meaning to try this for a few days; I feel all excited downloading it.....

.....okay, this is amazing.

My laptop died last month, and I lost a lot of the music I've "acquired" over the years. Now I can have it back (at home anyway) legally, woop!

Hmm - why? Would wanting to sound all wanky, to me it's a brand new paradigm; a new way of consuming. Digital downloads seem to miss the point a bit now.

My entire music collection is in iTunes (so I can have it on my iPod), so I listen there. If there's a new song I want to listen to before buying (or not) I use YouTube. Maybe I'm just lazy, but I cannot be arsed to move all my music and playlists to a different platform, when I'm quite happy with the one I have at the moment.

Ah, I guess this is a little different then. Like a said, it's a different concept.

With YouTube, you're relying on amateurs to illegally upload content (with questionable quality, which is then compressed to fuck) and the labels to claim it back.
With Spotify, it's organised, reliable, high quality and the artists get paid (costing you nothing - they get paid for free effectively).

You don't need to 'move' your collection - if you want to listen to David Ford just type him into the search bar and he's all there - no waiting or importing necessary.
