Livejournal still has my account. I am amazed.

It is quite possibly the hottest day of the year. It is currently 91 degrees Farenheit, with a projected high of 101. I am so cold I cannot feel my fingertips. And yes, I am wearing my emergency sweater. What's wrong with this picture?

Lately my co-workers have been giving me books to read. I appreciate the thought, but they all read Quality Fiction. This is a problem. I read to escape reality. Quality Fiction does not provide an escape so much as distillation of reality--a reality concentrate. A phrase I read in Newsweek that I can't stop thinking about is "Young men join the Marines to be like the warriors in those recruiting ads....They do not imagine they're joining a military version of the Peace Corps to be humanitarian workers."

I am wondering if anyone else has a reaction to this.

I was just chatted up by a recruiter who wanted to know if I was interested in leaving my temporary receptionist job to take another temporary receptionist job somewhere else.
