I'm finally starting to get my act together for my Bolivian trip (about time, considering I leave in 4 days!). Everyone is trying to talk me out of going alone, and I know there's good reason. All the tourist info says women shouldn't travel alone, even in groups, without men, so I am kind of nervous. The last time I was in South America, the hotel

That sounds very scary. You are badass for even considering it alone. Basically, you're just plain badass.
Can you bring weapons?

Well, I can't bring traditional weapons, but I'm trying to think of something ordinary that would make a good self-defense weapon. Bolivia's an unusual country in that most of their crime tends to be nonviolent. Lots of pick-pockets and thefts, but very few murders. There's an area of the country where the kidnapping rate is very high, but I'm not going to be anywhere near there.

Thanks! As I said there's still a chance I might not go now but will rather wait until spring break, but at present I'm still planning on it. I didn't mean to go all drama-queen above. Just talking my way through my anxieties (which I suppose is the closest I usually come to common sense...).
