my intestines are positively crooning.

last night I bought:
moulin rouge
les diaboliques
yi-yi
mujeres al borde de un ataque de nervios
and
desperately seeking susanall on VHS, for $3 each. and I've only seen the last one. I was gently mocked for purchasing outdated technology, but according to my preservation class, dvds are about on par with ( Read more... )

Local Hollywood Videos are currently ridding themselves of all the video tapes they don't have copies of on digital video discs. They want to give customers the choice of watching either/or (Speaking of either/or: I like Either/Or)--unless, of course, they only have the movies on digital video disc (which is often the case with newer movies, since it is getting more and more common for newer movies to be transferred just to the newer of the two formats).

What this means is that local Hollywood Videos are ridding themselves of some movies that have never been remastered and transferred to disc. That means that it is likely that many of the movies we had an opportunity (thanks to video tape) to see will die when our memories of them die.

Hollywood Video and Blockbuster Video are not long for this world either. Thanks, all you on-line, disc-only video retailers!

Hey, Netflix, can I rent Help! (1965) and The Legend of the Lone Ranger (1981) from you? I can't? Why not ( ... )

hooray for VHS tapes! i am forever in love with media that you can have more control over (i.e. recording shows on VHS is cheap & easy; re-writable DVDs and the DVD writer are so expensive). which is why i like cassette tapes more than CDs for some purposes-- hells yeah mixtapes! plus i only got a DVD player 6 months ago, so i am still playing catch-up with you newfangled kids.

i am trying to buy a lot of videos as the rental stores near me are turning to solely DVD rentals. which sucks, cause no one's gonna re-release some of the shittier 80's movies, so rock n roll zombies is gone forever.

Worry not, if atari games are all preserved in some underground mine in Arizona and the original monkey heads from "Planet of the Apes" are safe and sound in a room that releases ARGON GAS at the first sign of any fire, I'm sure someone will save "Rock N' Roll Zombies" in some format.
