I suppose I never applied that to my thinking because I knew a lot of other things about you before the culinary student part, whereas "we're culinary students" was one of the first things I learned about these people on the bus.
It makes sense, of course. I'd just never thought about it in detail. My mental shortcut was based on my (no doubt incorrect) idea of chefs in really high-end restaurants being refined, careful, and a bit snooty. I hadn't thought of the wider range of chefs, nor the fact that students are a bit different from the professionals they will eventually become.
Hodad's is an awesome burger joint. During peak times the line for a table is often out the door and around the block. Of course, part of that may be because it's beach community sized. ;-) Which also means parking there is difficult.
You could make a day trip of it! The beach is only a block or two away from Hodad's and OB does have the longest pier on the west coast. :-)
