Happy birthday, eliade!

Today's birthday tribute belongs to eliade. This is one of the writers on LiveJournal who knocks me out with her talent. Primarily, she writes slash, and I've followed her from Spike/Xander in the Buffyverse to Jim/Blair in The Sentinel to Jack/Vaughn in Alias and now to Rodney/John (and even Rodney/Ronan) in Stargate Atlantis. (She also wrote Jack/ ( Read more... )

Oh, what a nice practice! I wandered over to your LJ to check it out, and noticed this. I see there are comments for other authors on their birthdays. A wonderful present to them, and great to have recs and links to their work for the rest of us. :)

Yes, I'm really enjoying doing it--it's a great excuse to re-read stories by my favorite authors and remember why they fit that description! And I do hope it's been of some use to other folks, since I've appreciated so very much the great fiction I've found and keep finding through other people's recs. (It is also a way of keeping those links handy for myself, in case I lose all my bookmarks and my UDISKs--but practicality alone wouldn't be enough motivation, I must admit.) I do worry a bit that I'll praise the wrong thing about someone--because being complimented for what you weren't trying to do can be disconcerting--but so far, so good. And I'm happy to see that you have kindly provided your birthdate on your userinfo page, because people who haven't are getting tucked into the bare spots in, say, February. (April 3, right?)

Oh, that is so fun -- I almost always re-read a story when I recommend it (which can take lots of time, but it's hard to resist).

Good point about gathering links or archiving web pages. You might be interested in online bookmarking -- have you taken a glance at the site del.icio.us? I found it recently, but I really like the system of storing links, grouping links by tags, and then putting tags into bundles. If you take a look at the site and you're curious, I can dig up some users-guides to the site that have been posted around LJ.

My birthday is April 3, yes! No worries or expectations if you don't end up doing a thing that day, though if you happen to, that would be lovely.

That's a good idea, to put some people who don't list specific birthdays into a holding-month. I'll have to come back and check to see what stories you end up mentioning for different authors/occasions. :)

Thanks so much for the tip ononline bookmarking! I'm so technologically naive that I always appreciate it when someone lets me know there's another way to do something. When school lets up a bit (no rest for the teacher as well as the students!), I'll look into this.

I'm definitely looking forward to your day--I have my favorites of your work, already safely stored on UDISK, but one of the many delightful things about doing this is that I always end up discovering stories that I somehow managed to miss, particularly when it's an author, like you, that I began reading when I just started on LJ and didn't know how to follow people back to their user pages, etc. And it's right after a weekend--so I know what I'll get to be doing!
