My friend S. used to hand-raise birds of various species. I'm pretty much of the "give me beagles or give me a pet rock" mindset, but if I were going to keep a bird as a pet, I suspect I'd go more for the lovebird end of the spectrum than the macaws -- not as flashy, but much easier on the ears. ;-)
