Goodbye to Molly
I just found out that one of my favorite people in the world has died. Molly Ivins had a voice that could cleverly dissect the blatherings of American politicians with both wit and rage. Adjusting
I've been at the new job for two days now. Mostly I've been doing new-hire stuff: lots o' paperwork, various orientations, and online training (ethics and timecards). The lion's share of SAIC's business is national-security related: military stuff, intelligence, etc. This does not exactly thrill me, but at least I am working in a division dedicated ( Read more... ) -
Help, please!
The April exhibit at the Frank Bette Art Center will be a juried exhibit of photo-based art. During the last weekend of February, 40 photographers will take pictures in Alameda; those photos will be used in the exhibit. One sweet little comet
I'm several days late posting this, but I just have to share.
Last Thursday night, I ran across news stories online about Comet McNaught, newly discovered last August. It was becoming one of the brightest comets seen in decades. Happy 2007!
Between holidays these last couple of weeks, I've been sleeping way too much and huddling in my (warm) bed, reading some, but mostly playing games on my Palm, then staying up way too late. It's called Extreme Unproductivity. I also call it Fog. (Well, I also had a head cold for several days...)

Holiday fog
Christmas was twice for me this year.
I went to Davis on Christmas Eve, and Artemis, Ruth, Amy, Carol, and I went to the annual community meal. Anyone is welcome, and it was really fun, though we were pretty late getting there and had the feeling at the end that all the cheerful volunteers were going to pack us up along with the tables! Looks like I have a job. Local. Permanent. With benefits and a salary and everything.

I don't have the official offer letter yet, but I've been told it's in the works. I'll probably be able to start sometime after the first of the year. I'm going to be a GIS analyst at SAIC for a really interesting series of environmental projects ( Read more... ) -
Dilemma
Though I've been accepted as a Disaster Assistance Employee for FEMA, I could not begin work until I had my official government credit card (used for travel expenses). They only started processing my card at the time I became a DAE, the first week of October. At last, I've received it. Now I can be put officially into the Automated Deployment ( Read more... )
