fireworking my nerves

Oh, God. I just got my first Facebook invite to the Celebration of Light, the annual firework festival that happens every Saturday and Wednesday for two weeks. I calmly just selected no and went about my night, but that was only because there was no HELL TO THE FUCK NO option. That's what my Livejournal is for ( Read more... )

hell, fun, other people, me

I like the fireworks, but the commute is so horrible, that it deters me from going. Just wait until the Olympics--it will be like having the fireworks for two weeks! Yay!

I will be in Hawaii!

I can't really afford to go, but I can't afford not to go.

A while ago, on the news they were talking about transit and the Olympics. Someone (not just a guy off the street, but someone with a little bit of authority) said, "It will be like the fireworks, but going on for two weeks." Ugh.

Lucky! I know that whole "can't afford to/can't afford not to" thing--it's a key factor in my recent and upcoming jaunts to Seattle.

But this weekend's the last. Other things I wanna do now.

I went once, down to kits beach with friends and it was a lot of fun.

Not fun was the commute home. And later when I worked those nights and translink's erratic station entrance closures ( like waterfront closing the main access when there was NO crowd at all) and no busses for over 45 minutes going east, but one every 5 going west, well, grrr.

It was the primary reason I'd be getting the hell outta dodge during the olympics if we had landed back in Van. Lovely city. shit crowd management.

I loathe loud noise and crowds.

I can handle both in moderation, but doing it for four nights? Ugh. Pass.

I find it's worth it to go once or twice a year. I like spending time on the beach in the evening and the show is always cool. I do hate the crowd though, especially the cattle run that is getting to a bus once the show's over. I am a small person and get pushed around easily. And there was that time where someone pepper-sprayed the crowd, which was awful.

Lately we've been going to Vanier Park, which has a good view but then a walk home rather than bus. Not as spectacular as English Bay, though.

See, that sounds about my speed. I mean, this whole fireworks thing would be great if there were more than one or two good places to see them. But as it is, there aren't.
