After five time penalties between prelims and finals, I still managed to squeak out a win by cheating* in the last round of finals.  But still.  Five time penalties?  What's that?!?

EDIT:
10th place  Aaron Johnson   (because he went for a food run and got disqualified.)
9th place    Johnathan Standifird
8th place    Kat McCoy
7th place    The Klute
6th ( Read more... )

1 for Tiger Woods, 2 for To My Hair, 1 for Full Moon, 1 for English. I had the organizers look at the tape for the last two, and they said "it was really close."

But really, 3:19 for tiger woods? I was smoking something.

Congratulations again... I wish I had been more competative in the finals, but it was nice to see someone win who didn't just have to spend 10 bucks in gas to get to the venue. :)

Thanks bro.

I was annoyed at the finals format. Three random draws is NOT how you run very competitive events, as demonstrated by the unfairness of your 4,2,10.

Well, Mesa's always done random draw do I'm used to it. Never got screwed exactly as hard as I did last night though.

I guess it's just I probably slam a lot more than the average person in high-pressure slams, so maybe I just notice the effect of shitty draws more.

How did you "cheat"? It's damn near impossible to cheat in a poetry slam. What the poop is going on?

Oh, cheating is what I call "For the Breakdancers."

I didn't see the finals, but I remember that I did enjoy the Tiger MFer Woods piece, at the prelims.

Even with 5 time penalties, you won. That says you are THE BOMB. Congratulations on winning, your reads both nights were excellent.

Thank you, I appreciate it. It just really shook me ... I've gotten maybe one time (non-purposeful) time penalty in six years, and to get five over the course of six poems just blew my mind. Kinda unprofessional, but I need to stop complaining before I look like a sore winner.

Thank you so much for having us, it was a great slam and hopefully we put on a good show.

Sharon said something to me Friday that really made me step back- "duh! you are giving away $1,000, the fact that everyone took it that seriously is the way it should be." She then threw something at me and told me to quit being a baby :-)

It was good to have you, and it will be good to have you again next month!
