On February 5th, I'll be speaking at an Asian-American leadership conference at the University of Central Florida in Orlando. They've asked me to give a commencement speech about the need to increase social awareness and activism, and the speech is supposed to psych up the high school senior / college freshmen crowd for a day of workshops.

but what i would suggest is just start writing about what it is you want to say. if it gets poetic let it. when you go back through it, put in the parts that make it tabgible, put in things that one isn't "allowed" to do in poetry: tell them straight faced what you are talking about. but do't scrap the poetics entirely. with you coming form a poetry background, that's what will make the words stick, you sculpt and talk about an idea and use poetics as the glue to make those things stick to their ears. that's my two cents for what it's worth.
