So, it's been a few weeks since I watched Journey's End...there's been Torchwood in between, and now I'm waiting on the Doctor Who specials to arrive by mail. Yay Amazon for having them on sale!
This has given me some time to think and the way things wrapped up in Journey's End for me, which at the time I liked because it was neat and tidy, have now

Frankly, I haven't even thought much about it since then. I agree that it's a little too tidy. There was nothing tidy about Doomsday; it was gut-wrenchingly heartbreaking. I think you distilled JE (which I can't type without thinking Jane Eyre) down to a very important point.
Rose + Doctor + NO TARDIS = WTF?
It's the beginning of wiping the slate clean for Matt Smith...

Anyway, yeah, I mean I don't completely DISLIKE the idea of Rose having the Doctor in the end- of course, being a huge fan of them as a ship makes a big part of this great. But yes...it's just a little too neat. You bring up a great point that there was NOTHING tidy about Doomsday...
Also, GREAT point about this being the beginning of marking that transition to Matt Smith.
But yes, in the end, I have to keep as part of my personal canon (as Wendy notes below) that they DO have the TARDIS and are traveling around. Because I am so fearful of the resentment that COULD develop with both of them being earth and time bound.
I think I'm probably going to go back and forth on this ending for them for a while...sometimes I love it...sometimes I hate it...I think most of the time it's just going to make me wish for something more that I didn't see in the screen. Guess I'll just have to "fill that in" for myself in my head!

The duplicate Ten is not the same as the Doctor. Of course he is in many ways, but he has elements of Donna, who is interested in settling down and having a relationship. They can travel still - in my mind, they do build their own TARDIS (see my fic Cold Heaven, which to me is what I would love to see happen for them *g*), but even if they didn't I think they'd have plenty of excitement anyway.
Have you read azriona's Pages from a Broken Book? That's an excellent account of both of them struggling with who and where they are now. Me, I like happy endings, and I can definitely buy this as a happy ending even if I do agree that there would be adjustment time first.
