Today was a gorgeous day - warm and sunny and not a single cloud in the sky. But alas, I had plans, so no chance to really enjoy it. I wrote my words in the morning and went with Bill to the embassy for lunch (we ordered Thai, because there's more awesome Thai restaurants downtown than there are by us). Today is the first day hotels are open again in Poland, and I wonder how many people went somewhere for the sole purpose of taking advantage of that. The big day - as far as I'm concerned - is next week, when outdoor dining at restaurants opens up for the first time since October. Cleo died at the end of March.
I wanted to write about her last week - it was a hell of a week, for a lot of reasons, and I had - have - a hell of a lot of emotions/guilt about it, for a lot of reasons. Every couple of weeks, the Polish government announces another tweak to the current list of pandemic restrictions. For the most part, things have been tightening and tightening over the last couple of months while numbers surged. But yesterday, the announcements went in the other direction.

I saw a post on Twitter yesterday that gave me pause. It was an entire thread on self-publishing, and one of the comments was from a would-be writer, claiming that she didn't want to self-publish because it was "so expensive."
Which I don't get - because does she think traditional publishing will just hand her check after check after check? That's ( Read more... ) -

A school story (in a pandemic)
So the first two weeks of school have been very interesting, from a pandemic standpoint. From an educational standpoint, they've been mostly great. Andrew had some initial trouble because his best (and only) friend from last year was put in a different class - but he's made two great friends amongst the new students, and he likes his teachers.
