Today I'm listening to Eurovision songs through the ages whilst working. German and Dutch are really ugly languages for singing in, aren't they?

I think they think the same about English (specifically it seems over-sibilant).

English is horrible to sing in. I'll take Italian any day but failing that German's better than English.

They're not too good for telling jokes in either.

There is a joke though, about a bunch of people who are arguing about which language is the most beautiful, and eventually they decide to judge it on the best translation of the word 'butterfly', a buttefly being a thing of beauty. Anyway, the english guy starts off with 'Butterfly', which gets a nod of approval from the rest of the party; then the French guy steps up with 'Papillon', and again more approving nods; and so on, and so on, through Spanish ('Mariposa'), Italian ('Farfalla'), until they get to the German guy:

"und vot is vrong vith 'Schmetterling'?"

(Sorry. Geeky language joke. I think I left my coat over here...)

German can be very nice for certain types of music. Rammstein for example.

German and Dutch are very ugly languages full stop, if you ask me.

Although I don't mind German as so many of the words are so close to English it's neither difficult to speak nor understand.
