The Curse of Fenric

Foreign languages and subtitles? Now that's something you don't see every day on this show. Not even with the German Daleks.

And good god PLEASE explain what Ace is wearing and why. That looks very distinctly un-Ace-like.

So when confronted with a rifle last time, Seven recoiled and put his hands up. When confronted with FIVE rifles, he yells "ABOUT TIME!"

"Everything in English!" Well, that solves THAT problem.

Let's see: a man with Swastika banners in his office and Hitler's portrait hanging on his wall. I wonder which side he could possibly be on.

So apparently the European equivalent of "built on an Indian burial ground" is "built on a Viking burial ground."

When will fictional characters learn to just NOT BUILD THINGS ON ANCIENT BURIAL GROUNDS?

Well, if that wasn't a cry of "girls go there to LOSE THEIR VIRGINITY!" I don't know what is.

"Germans! German spies!"
"Look at the lettering."
"Greek."
"Rrrrussian."
CALLED IT. (and DAMMIT WHY CAN'T I ROLL MY Rs LIKE THAT)

Is that the beginning of the first computer I see why yes I do believe it is.

So we're watching Jaws now?

Wow. And I thought historical soldiers didn't take shots at women.

So would anyone care to explain what significance the baby has?

Oh I get it now, she has Ace's despised mother's name.

So the Nazi room from earlier is actually part of the Marine camp? Fake Nazi room is fake.

So it looks like Netflix Instant has the movie-length edit of this story instead of keeping it divided into 4 episodes.

Oh. So maybe they weren't talking about sex before after all. Apparently swimming was "evil" during World War II.

Actually, I think she's flipping out more about them showing off their bodies, but still.

Anyone else see symbolism in the fact that they demonstrated the power of the toxin on doves in a cage?

DO NOT TAUNT HAPPY FUN VASE. Especially if it's glowing faintly green and can BREAK THROUGH BRICK WALLS.

So the Germans burned books, creepy British officers burned chess sets. Okay...?

"Do you have any family yourself?"
"...I don't know."
Give him another regeneration or two and we'll know for sure. *coughtimewarcough*

AQUA-VAMPIRES.

"You've got to come into the water." Why am I so insistent on making Jaws references? I don't know.

This might be a good time to mention that I'm not quite okay with the image of dead bodies floating in the water.

STOP. HAM(mer) TIME.

SWEET MOTHER OF...UNDEAD VAMPIRE SEA MONSTER VIKINGS.

"Radio transmissions disabled as ordered, sir!"
"Splendid work, Perkins, splendid work! Now put them back together again."

Wait...WHAT makes Ace "not so sure" that she never wants to get married? I thought she and Seven didn't have that kind of relationship...

"A few hints might be useful."
"Well just look for SOMETHING...uh, evil!"

Um, yeah, usually when there's BLOOD leaking out from under a door it doesn't mean it's RAINING. Unless of course it's raining blood.

Ace rescued by German soldiers! Nice! Also, looks like the Hemovores might not be immune to bullets after all.

So that must've been Seven calling on the names of all his previous companions. I could tell because I couldn't hear any of it.

Well, I kinda heard "Susan," but that's it. Kinda wish I could turn subtitles on...

...okay, that was an interesting moment between Ace and that soldier...

The soldiers were Russians after all! Apparently that one has enough faith in communism to use the hammer and sickle to fend off vampires.

"Another explosion could bring the roof down on top of our heads!"
"Oh, just a small one?"
"NO!!"
*whine*

Guys, a Russian soldier slowly walking through screaming Hemovores protected by the power of the Reds. This is actually quite epic.

A woman sitting completely motionless with a letter crumpled in her hand. This can only mean one thing in war...

Just like I thought. A "s'posion" joke would be highly inappropriate here.

And Ace FINALLY calls Seven out on not explaining anything. I'd forgotten that we hadn't had any decent exposition in a while.

Now if only Seven's babbling about the birth of the world and the forces of good and evil made any sense...

Oh crap. What's the betting that Professor Judson just got possessed by Fenric?

Yup. Also, he seems to know the Doctor from something before.

Well, I think we've had the chess thing explained. Also, not a very convincing rain, guys. I can tell it's still sunny out.

"Don't interrupt me when I'm eulogizing."

And then there was a chess'plosion!

"Let's join forces. Fight the REAL enemy."
"That's a really good idea."

So now I can't help but wonder if that baby was Ace's mother the whole time. The vague ages and dates all seem to match up.

"Where is the game, Time Lord." The game. The Game. THE GAME.

"A traitor is someone who knows who the enemy is."
*BANG*
"But I DO."
OH YEAH BADASSERY FROM THE FLOOR.

"We're fighting TOGETHER." Oh man, I wish storyfan could see this.

THE BABY WAS ACE'S MOM. CALLED IT.

"Kneel if you want the girl to live."
".........Kill her."
WAAAT

There's four minutes left for them to stop Fenric AND for Seven to give an explanation of why he's suddenly degrading Ace. COME ON GUYS.

Done and done! Wow. AND Seven's explanation made perfect sense.

Back to being time-traveling BFFs!
