Yes. This is what I think.

The death of Heath Ledger was sad enough. Anytime such a young life is lost it's enough to give you pause. But this...this really upset me. This upset me to the point of sobs ( Read more... )

Yes. This is just a gross perversion of christianity. But I really do believe that religion is the fuel for everything stupid and evil that happens in this world. But again, if there was no religion they'd just make up a different justification for their shit. So...i hate people.

The WBC post had thrown me over the edge. You're church may accept anyone and everyone. Gay people can believe in god too. But you cannot turn a blind eye to the fact that religion is a basis of hate and war. Religion is something that is used to incite fear and hatred.

I generalized them all together in this post as an extremely agitated and emotional vent. Religion can be used for good and comfort and help as well. But I believe that 98% of humanity is purely selfish and extremely stupid. Therefore...98% of humans aren't going to take the time to think about anything as much as we are in these comments on a livejournal.

If I were you I wouldn't lump yourself into that group.

I respect intelligent people and the educated decisions they make about religion.

Please don't read a hostile or judgmental tone into any of what I am about to say... I am genuinely curious about your statement and am not looking to start a fight.

The first time I heard about the WBC I was torn between wanting to throw up and abandoning all hope in mankind. These people are disgusting. I totally understand where you're coming from with your revulsion for Fred Phelps; I think you would be hard pressed to find anyone (outside of his "church"...which consists of his family) who does not become physically ill at the hearing of his vitriol. However, I do not think that it is correct to equate the crazed ramblings of a psychotic misanthrope to the doctrines of every other religion in the world. What the WBC spews is many things, but it most certainly is not religion-- I promise you I am not fooling myself when I say this ( ... )

I said all of those things out of an extremely agitated state of emotion. I understand that the WBC is the extreme side of extremism. This extremism, however, is still a branch of Christianity. Not to compare you to Fred ( ... )
