Today we only had four classes, rather than the typical six because today was the 百人一首大会 (the Hyakunin Isshu competition). 百人一首 (hyakunin isshu), can be literally translated as 100 people, 1 poem

I've passed the one year in Japan point. In addition to the return of the 月見 (moon viewing) burger at McDonalds (essentially a hamburger with a sunny-side-up egg on top), Fall in Japan also means 文化祭 time. Bunkasai translates to Culture Festival and seems to be an occasion to show off to parents and the community. Which means excessive
