Congrats on defecting to manual transmission. May you never go back to automatic. I made The Switch almost 3 years ago and they can have my stick shift when they pry it from my COLD DEAD HANDS!
Those first few days driving to and from work were something else, though. I was quite a newbie stick shift driver...it was scary as hell. Give it a couple of weeks and you'll be fine.
Disclaimer: I still occasionally stall my car. Don't be embarrassed.
Next up: learning how to pop the clutch and get going out of first on a hill. Scary! Hard to perfect this skill in Michigan, but I get by.
Thanks!!! I had several people ask, when I ordered Sriracha, if I was sure I wanted a manual. Yes, I was ABSOLUTELY sure, I was SO bored with driving an automatic. Even if I weren't getting such an awesome new car I'd have wanted a manual because I just wanted a more interesting, interactive driving experience to keep me alert and engaged.
I've been doing generally well, had my first experience driving in backed up crawling/stop-and-go Interstate traffic this morning and didn't stall once! Now I just need to get a little more fluid in my takeoffs so that I can get rolling from a complete stop a little bit faster. My downshifts are also still a little jerky at times, but I'm improving very rapidly just with more driving time. It really is just a matter of relaxing and not overthinking what you're doing.
And while we're congrats-ing, congrats to YOU on the NY Marathon! You're darn right Boston's next! :D
I am on LJ, just very very seldom. And yeah, Facebook does take up a bit of time. Can I help if I'm addicted to stupid shit like MafiaWars? I did check your LJ and saw your Facebook related post...and refrained from sending you a friend request. I almost posted in response but I felt it was coming off as too defensive...FB's not for everybody, but I did have a time where I was coming into contact with people from my HS and even elementary school, the surprising thing to me is that I found that I actually cared about what people were up to. I guess in general I just like people. But I may be uncommon from the average FB user, I really only send/accept friend requests if I actually knew the person in real life, and the number of FB friends I have has no relation to my self esteem

Well, looks like I also have to reach the top speed of 147, I have to complete the full 11 miles of the Tail of the Dragon, and I have to /dance with an Orc Warlock.
