It's sounds like a true story and I am glad that it is fiction. Lot of hard work there with the links and all.

A lot of the framing structure...is based in evidence and expert speculation. Even with senationalization put aside, what has been reported is cray cray enough.

The links were possibly the easiest parts to add. The research was murder.

Thanks for the read.

It's a very interesting story. I'd heard some of the fact bases on the radio, so that helped to ground me as I read. Plus, as a long time LJ user, DDOS attacks bringing down a site was certainly familiar to me! I often think that the DDOS attacks against Livejournal had a great deal to do with The Exodus. ):

Ah. The great Exodus. When Gary parted the dead blog and journalers poured out across the open media, fleeing Pharaoh Brad Fitzpatrick toward the promised land of Vines and hoaxes.

Thank you for the read. I'm glad you found it interesting. There is a lot of basis for this piece, yes. I did sort of toss terms up, expecting readers to pick up meaning from context or by looking them up. Some may find that challenging, but I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing.

Really timely, really provocative and I wonder how much of this is factual? Because it feels real, it smells real. It could be one of the most worthwhile reads this season.

There is a lot of speculation, evidence, and an entry from a previous season of idol as a backdrop to this piece. How I fit pieces into place to make a more coherent narrative is fiction. Do your own research, because the actual reports are shocking. I knew it would make a good topical spy-fi tale.

Thank you for the read and high praise <3

Sometimes my humor pieces (especially crack) require the most research of all. Satire is often funniest when it blows the truth up to the power of a billionty, which means a lot of fact and detail-checking.

I would not have guessed that Cozy Bear and Fancy Bear were real hackers, though the "bear" part correctly points to Russians. The adjectives are so laughable, they SHOULD be satire, yet apparently are not.
