Yeah! They seem such a AD&D/D&D invention. I probably killed lots of them in Icewind Dale 2, I just forgot. Still, it seems like...the world could use more owlbears. Square Enix needs to get on that. Final Fantasy XV, owlbears should rule the world.

Now that I made that joke, it's somewhere in between. Invented in the 1970s by Gary Gygax, the creator of Dungeons and Dragons, they're bear-like, bear-sized animals with feathers instead of fur and have giant beaks that they usually slam down on opponents after they hug their prey like a bear. Thought to be a magical experiment that went horribly awry, they started living in the wild in most of the settings and have appeared in other fantasy universes since.
