Ooh, I loved this! You know I love Madeline and I was just discussing her with madamdarque in my journal the other day. About how in the beginning I didn't really know Madeline. Was she that mother figure she seemed in the beginning? Or was she just the cold-blooded torturer and profiler? In this vid, I feel the "mothering" of Nikita was a bit of an act. But maybe not? Nikita would love to mother her new recruits but she can't. She's now Operations.
I'd love to see new fic with Nikita as Operations. I've played a bit with the idea and as you show in the vid, I think Nikita learned more from Madeline than she might think.
I also like the shot of her with the pigtails. It's so incongruous, this blond little girl but she will beat the crap of out of you in the white room. :-)
See, I never liked the maternal thing with Nikita and preferred to think it was an act. Madeline is an enigma because of the many layers to her personality, but even that can't excuse how wildly different Madeline's character is from season 1 to season 4. It kind of leads to me disqualifying season 1 Madeline (particularly the first few episodes) from canon status in my mind, even though there were some great moments, because I just find it really hard to reconcile season 1! Madeline and her later incarnations.
I agree. I keep season 1 Madeline a bit separate in my mind from later Madeline. Kind of like I keep Nikita separate from GelmanProcess!Nikita and from that other double Nikita. But what's intriguing is that they are what Madeline or Nikita could have been, you know?
And Madeline did have some really nice softer moments in season 1. There's this classic exchange I sort of remember it goes something like this:
N: Where do you go, Madeline. When you're not here? M: Good. It usually takes the new ones a while to ask that question. N: How long until you get an answer? M: No one has had one yet.
---------
M: I know what I need to know, Nikita. If you do the same, you'll do all right.
-----------
Part of me likes the idea of the softer Madeline giving Nikita advice. Just doing her job because she has to like the rest of them do. I think that may have been Madeline once, a long, long time ago. But not anymore.
I could talk about Madeline for weeks if you let me. ;-)
This is great. Gorgeous song, gorgeous imagery (and it's reminding me how painfully attractive both of these women were. /shallow) I think my relative lack of interest in Nikita made it difficult for me to love the Madeline vs. Nikita rivalry like I thought I would--I find myself more interested in Madeline vs. Adrian, to be honest.
But that being said, I really like what you've done here. You managed to create a fascinating storyline playing on Madeline's comment in "New Regime," something that the show didn't really follow up on. (I though "I'll be ready for you" was some sort of foreshadowing and I was excited, but then...no.) I just love this vid. It's full of awesome things. ;)
Aw, Thanks!! It is not hard to make a pretty vid with Madeline in it!

*nods head enthusiastically!!*

Yeah, Madeline/Adrian has it all! Too bad Adrian was only in a few episodes and some of them were of the dreaded RoboNikita variety; but at least, I can go back and read your wonderful Madeline/Adrian fic whenever I need a fix!

Yeah, the show really dropped the ball with the Nikita/Madeline dynamic when the show made the tension between HR/TR center around "No, you cannot sleep with that boy"/"Well, screw you, I'm going to sleep with him and you can't stop me." UGH!
Again, thank you so much! I'm thrilled that you liked it!
