They come for her, when everyone knows it's near the end. They slide into her house in the wee hours of the morning, both of them moving with liquid grace, and spirit her away with stealth that isn't necessary. Everyone knows that they are coming; everyone expects it without ever saying a thing

"It's all right," she tells them, eyes closing again because it takes too much energy to keep them open. "It really is. I had a good life; I have no regrets."

"You deserved a good life," Elena whispers into her ear. "Deserved it more than any of us."

"Fought for it harder, too," Caroline adds.

Bonnie nods and turns her face up to the sun. It feels so good on her skin; feels every bit as good as it used to. "I will miss this," she concedes after a lengthy silence.

The other girls shift closer, tears more apparent than before.

"We'll miss you," Elena's voice hitches and a sob escapes her before she can catch it
