I don't promise to make sense but I do promise gifs

Yay okay so I was all set to write fic because ROBOTS, but then I realized that I don't have any way to write this without more information and this is instead going to be a list about how much I love the comics (lol thesis draft? what thesis draft?) and this particular twist and mostly this issue as a whole. I JUST HAVE A LOT OF FEELINGS Y'ALL. ( Read more... )

Ooh, yes, good point about the cover! It's interesting because the whole subversion of normal almost feels unnecessary? Because Buffy doesn't seem that interested in normal, and is there really a need to address her misconceptions about something that isn't relevant to her in the first place? But at the same time, I think it's important that she figure out that she can also grasp parts of "normal," that it isn't this giant, all-inclusive word for everything she isn't.

Eh, I feel like I'm fanwanking now. :/ But you're right!

I think that is unnecessary, after the whole "Riley is my normal boyfriend" saga and I do believe that Buffy already figured out what she want, but here we are. I only believe that is important to see Spike a "normal" boyfriend, in the sense that they could be happy, living as vampire slayer and vampire with a soul, without being depressed or obsessed. In my happy spuffy place they also can be great parents and great married couple.
But this is just me fangirling! Sorry! >*

No, I fangirl with you! ;)

I mentioned this in a thread yesterday, but I don't want Spike to settle into Buffy's ideal of normal, either- and I don't think that Buffy would, either. But I'd love to see them living domestic lives together and fighting demons at night and snarking at each other! Sebastian the bug can stick around, too!

I am also loving this season.

Isuspect that whatever Andrew did, it was done with good intentions. That doesn't mean it was the correct thing to do.

And I agree that Buffy was trying to tell Spike that neither were completely normal and she was fine with that, but Spike misinterpreted.

As far as her black out, I could be way off base, but I know people who drank enough at a party that they couldn't remember the details the next day. However, at the party itself, they didn't lose consciousness. They were definitely drunk but not to the point where they could be coerced into anything. I think this is also referred to as a blackout and I wonder if this is what happened to Buffy. It certainly never seems to cross her mind tha the sex would not have been mutiual.

I can imagine a Big Bad persuading Andrew that he ~needs~ to do this to help Buffy. Although I'm wondering who commissioned the bot in the first place, because afaik, the only person still alive with the ability to work such a lifelike bot is Willow... :/

I vacillate on whether or not she was actually in control of herself that night- but I have trouble imagining Buffy having random sex with someone at the party because that just didn't seem like the place she was at. (My number one theory involves Heinrich (as the Master) implanting the Seed in her, but the less I think about that outcome the better. :/)

We do get this quote from Allie, though:

"I know this is something that bothered a lot of readers, and I’m not gonna say we’re right and they’re wrong. For Buffy, inside the story, dealing with the reality of it, from her perspective-she thought she had let herself get black-out drunk at a party in her own house. She remembered drinking, she remembered waking up hung over-not apparently hurt in any other way, when she woke up in ( ... )

I think it's also in character for Buffy. Unless she was unconscious (and I refuse to believe that) even drunk, she;s strong enough to not have sex if she doesn't want to.

Buffu has always used sex/someone's atraction to her as a way to make herself feel better about herself. It wouldn't be out of character for her to sleep with someone when her judgment is impaired.

That's true! I think it's mostly her reaction afterwards that makes me wonder, because she's so worried about it that I'd thought that she wouldn't have been willing unless completely without her faculties. But the fact that she worries could easily be interpreted as Buffy assuming that this is something she'd do.

Huh. Never noticed the robot image on the shirt before, and the angel wings...more foreshadowing about the state of her soul or something?

As for Andrew, he was listening to Lady Gaga while making that arm, so he might as well have had devil horns on his head.

(Heh, I kid--I kid all Lady Gaga fans...)

I don't think it's Dowling so much we have to look at but Heinrich, who we so far have been unable to look at...is he even real, or red herring? Or wait, he lived there before Buffy made the scene at that apartment, or...?

I'm wondering about the angel wings, too- is it (as I've seen bandied about in some circles) reference to Angel? Is it (my preference) alluding to wherever Buffy's mind/soul is? Either way, it indicates that Buffy is already robotic at that point, which makes no sense at all to me (unless it was some kind of slow transformation).

:D

I'm still struck by the connection between Heinrich and the Master and what that might be indicating, but the concept is so sick that I don't want to consider it unless it actually happens. :/

But the Masters' dead--like twice dead. I suppose they could bring him back (again) and it didn't make sense the first time around...

A reference to Angel...hrm, funny you mention that, cause Angelus sent Buffy roses, and this "Heinrich" also sent a bouquet of the same. Wat?!

And the robot t-shirt thingy, I hope that that was just foreshadowing as well, and not a "I'm really a robot!" flag :/

I wouldn't be surprised if the Master came back on Seed-related business, if only because they've done it before with no explanation. :/

DO NOT WANT. (But really, it makes an odd sort of sense that I don't want to think about. The less the events of the Twilight arc are relevant, the better.)

I'm hoping it's foreshadowing, but the First Slayer's "You are not the slayer" line seems to refer to the present, which just confuses me, because...even if you had a robot with bodily functions, why would you want it to produce HCG to test positive for pregnancy?

I'm loving this season too. They did a really great job at distracting us from the real problem she would have to face during the season. The robot thing is quite weird but smart. And yes... seeing again the Buffy/Spike interaction is a dream came true. I'm loving it so much!

Yes! And the misdirection and the absurdity combined are two of the best aspects of Buffy that we haven't seen much of lately...I kind of feel like I'm back at the beginning of S5, watching Buffy return home after Dracula and finding a stranger/sister in her room. It's ridiculous, but I don't doubt their ability to make it work!

And the Buffy/Spike is exactly how I want it- feelings (of some sort) all around, deep friendship, COHABITATION... <3333

I am certainly loving S9 a whole lot more than S8. (Many, many issues with S8). I posted my feels about this one at my LJ.

I'll go check them out! (I think I saw them earlier this week, but it was at one of those unfortunate times when I have enough time to briefly skim before I have to run and don't have time to respond.)
