BBC News Online have gone 'wacky animal story' crazy!

Snake 'befriends' snack hamster

Apparently the best thing to do if attacked by a shark is to "get out of the water as soon as possible." Leave a comment

Let's see... what was the main part of that shark story? The attack, yes, and they happen to just mention in passing that he whacked the beastie with his speargun. So was he just out for a quick dive, and happened to take his speargun along in case of shark attack? No, I think we will find he was out hunting and was surrounded by the smell of blood, which a shark can sense from miles away. How is the poor shark supposed to tell the difference between manflesh covered in fishblood smell and an actual fish???

So, perhaps the advice should be not to go spearfishing, like a dickweed, and then he wouldn't need to get out of the water. The majority of shark attacks are mistakes, on spearfishers and surfers, who look like a turtle from beneath. There are only 3 species of shark who will actively attack and hunt humans.

*packs away soapbox*

Good point - I hadn't thought of that.
Your acumen and powers of deduction are to be commended.

That's very flattering, but I must confess that I was looking out for it when I started reading the story. It's a pet rant of mine. Thank you for allowing it to roam free and wild.

I love: "Never, ever 'play dead'"

Presumably because a shark is immune to such obvious human tomfoolery and quickly obliges you playing dead with making you really dead.

No sense of fun, them sharks.

I like the bit of the article that sayd "Fight like a man!", when really you'd be better off fighting like a giant squid ;)
