Aisling was the princess of a group of the Tuath de Dannan (borne out by this picture, this one, and this one, all either endorsed or painted by the artist for the film, Tomm Moore).  Her parents and her people were killed by Crom Cruach when she was rather young, for a fae. Some time in the past, Aisling lost her "people" (Brenden refers to her as a faerie) and her mother to Crom Cruach, the implication being that they died.

Since then, she has lived through the "many ages" (assumed to be at least one hundred years, but probably more), changing forms between at least those of girl, salmon, doe, and wolf.  She says that ( Read more... )
