Dr. Pirrong describes perfectly why 5y TIPS were auctioned yesterday at a negative yield. The mainstream articles all say it's because investors are expecting hyperinflation, but that's not the case. TIPS make money in deflationary environments also. Buying TIPS is like buying inflation vol.

Palin as maverick
CNBC twat Bill Griffeth referred to Palin as a "maverick" (a label endlessly and uncritically pasted upon McCain) at least 7 times in the course of 30 seconds today, and I nearly hurled.
