So I've got a game I've been working on for awhile that seems pretty cool concept wise, but is something that I feel ultimately isn't a me game. It's the Cthulhu in Space game I had discussed previously, but I'm not much of a horror gaming person really. So I'm afraid my lack of progress is due to not really grokking the concept ( Read more... )

I haven't played that much with you to form of an idea of a stile. However, I have learned at with a Lee driven game or plot "Everything is Connected!"

Hrm...that's a bold mirror to ask folks to hold up. You sure you going to like the result?

Let me think back and distill the essence of Lee, in his post-formative but still pre-professional early years, the setup scenes that are quickly glossed over in VH1's "Behind the Music" as "Lee involved himself in boffer-LARPs in the south, but after the break, opportunity knocks, and later, it all comes crashing down in an orgy of drugs and loose women."

(Okay that last part may not apply but it always seems to me that VH1 Behind the Music has some horrific crash fueled by drugs and loose women "after the break".)

I've ALWAYS wanted to crash and burn fueled by drugs and loose women, but I never had enough money.

high atmosphere
strong flavor
strong genre, but might be a mix of more than one
Star Wars
scientific influence, not just "magic"
thematic influence from real world history
emotional investment from players
encounters prompt stronger characterization
chance for PCs to backstab each other, a la Paranoia
"cute relief" instead of comic relief

Cthulhu in Space sounds intriguing to me. I had a plot for just such a game, set in the Traveler environment, once. Sadly, the gaming group exploded in a shower of "Our GM is too disorganized!"

Hell, I think anything that involves crescent moons, a foggy night and people in green masks reminds me of you. :) Target Acquired, indeed.

Seriously, though - having only had experience with you in a LARP context, I think as long as it's plot-driven you can't go wrong. Write what you know.
