http://comingclean.livejournal.com/3027698.html Over the next month Patrick was happy to notice his son getting back to his old self bit-by-bit. He’d been worried that, since Cheryl and Myla had left, Mike had withdrawn and was happy he’d finally gotten his spark back. By that time Mike had spent every night with Billie and found himself wishing with an idle mind that he might not wake up the next time he fell asleep. These thoughts scared and excited him, but he didn’t want to share them with Billie yet. He was afraid he might be falling in love and he wasn’t going to lose his new happiness. When his mother had left with his sister Mike’s world was shattered and he never thought he could be so happy again, but with Billie around it all seemed okay.
“Something’s bothering you,” Billie’s voice was soft and quiet as his fingers stroked through Mike’s hair lightly. Mike sat up on the bed and smiled down at him. He loved how he always seemed to know Mike inside out.
“I’ve never been happier Billie,” his eyes dropped and Billie propped himself up on his arms. “In fact, I was thinking, you can say no, but I’ve never liked any girls like I like you and I thought maybe you could be my boyfriend?”
Billie gave him a sad smile but kissed him anyway, “And when you find someone you fall in love with in the real world?”
“I love you in the real world,” Mike pushed. He kissed Billie this time, laying them down together. “I love you so much I- I could sleep forever.”
When Mike finally graced the world with his presence, it was after noon. “That’s a big grin for someone who just woke up. Something happen?” Patrick asked, getting up to make some lunch. Mike just shrugged, unwilling to tell his father about his amazing new boyfriend. Then he had an idea. If Billie wanted to know what would happen if he loved someone in real life, he’d find Billie in real life.
“Hey Dad? Who’s Billie Joe?” he asked casually, sitting at the table. His father chuckled and sat down with Mike.
“Billie Joe was a famous actress. You like her picture?” Mike was confused why his dad thought Billie was a girl, when he clearly saw a boy, but ignored it.
“Yeah. Can I go see her? I really want to meet her Dad,” he begged.
“Son, now don’t be silly. She’s been dead since 1929.”
And with that Mike’s world collapsed all over again.
