I've been listening to some really great music lately, which I thought I'd recommend:

1. Congotronics 2 - V/A - This is a compilation of bands from Kinshasa, released by the people who brought Konono No. 1 to international (European/North American) attention. Nine tracks by nine bands, and at least 3 of them are house-flatteningly good. ( Read more... )

just now found this post. Entertainment has been one of my favorite record acquistions in the last year, though i have listened to GoF semi-seriously previously. I ignored them for the first year of owning an album, til a good friend pointed out to me that Anthrax is the best anti-love song ever recorded. that was back when i was obsessive about making anti-love-song mix tapes. And of course i've always had a thing for Sarah lee (ever since first hearing Robert Fripp and the league of gentlemen at age 16 -- youg punk dykes and their thing about lady bassists -- don't even talk about tina wheymouth!). Though Ms. Lee's not on entertainment, to be sure.

Basically all the stuff i'm hooked on lately falls somewhere between gang of four and Delta 5. Mekons and Wire and Young Marble Giants being my most recent acquisitions from that general streak.

Maybe soon i'll fall for something that was recorded in the last 20 years!!!

"Anthrax" is a wonderful song. I was lucky to have a mixtape made by a friend's cool older brother when I was in high school. In addition to "Anthrax," the tape featured "Too Drunk To Fuck" and other punk excitement that contributed to my eventual corruption/enlightenment.
