A. or B. For me the worst is when people try to tell me to "cheer up" "stop crying" or "it's not so bad". Probably the best thing to say IMHO is "it'll get better," because it usually does.

yeah I think it is really asshole-ish to say stuff like that, but I guess some people believe in "tough love" and I honestly don't know if it has merit or not.

The people I know who believe in tough love are generally male, or have severe emotional issues.

Also it is ok to set boundaries if you are the listen-er and beginning to feel worn out.

You can say "hey, take some time off from worrying about this." or "I'm more than happy to chat about this if you need some help figuring out a solution. At some point, the venting can be unhealthy, you know?"

Easier said (typed) than done of course
