GOD ARTHUR WHY DON'T YOU JUST LET YOURSELF GO FOR FIVE SECONDS
The truth is, I kind of adore the fact that Cobb and Arthur have a massively professional relationship that shades into friendship, but I adore that (at least in this fic!) Arthur can't really accept that Cobb sees him as a friend. I love that Arthur literally can't figure out what's wrong with himself, and that he tries to hide it instead of deal with it. I love the fight at the end. I love that Eames is furious and doesn't want to have anything to do with a team verging towards falling apart, because people forget so often that Eames has a self-preservation instinct Arthur doesn't seem to share.
Also, awesome on you for examining how a physical/mental trauma would carry over to the dreamworld if untreated.
I really enjoyed reading this! And Arthur breaks my heart here. ;____;
Thank you thank you thank you for your comment (and for mentioning me as a writer you like in one of your journal entries, which I only just noticed ♥.)
I really love Arthur and Cobb because their relationship, whether explored at a romantic level or not, is based on such an interesting and complex bond. Arthur is the only one who knew Arthur before Mal's death, and I think that's a lot of the reason he relates to him in such a unique way. I think in some ways Arthur still sees Cobb as the man he used to be, and that's both good and bad. It means that Arthur still expects a sort of... self-involvement from Cobb that precludes any sort of personal/intimate relationship or friendship (I got the impression that, when she was alive, Dom and Mal didn't have room in their lives for many other people) and that means that he struggles to make that fit with how Cobb acts towards him in the present (i.e. treating him as a friend and confidant instead of simply a co-worker.)
So yes. I love writing Arthur, and I'm glad you liked this~! XD
Oh this is just amazing. Great backstory, great characterization- Oh man, I would love to read what Arthur does on his own to 'fix' himself and how/why/when he comes back to Cobb.
This is just fantastic, wow. I can't get over how good this is.
I would have to agree with the above commenter that this hurt. Gah! But is IS a good hurt. I love how you portray their relationship in such a heartbreakingly real way.
