I've got a feeling Max may come out with fully formed and very articulate sentences when he's good and ready. I know several late-talkers who did that. I'm glad you got that second opinion and I'm also glad she didn't charge you for the evaluation. That was very nice of her. Sometimes when people do things like that (be super nice) it can make a world of difference. I think the Kazoo is a brilliant idea! I had never thought about that as training/exercise tool, but it sounds like a great one.
What a lovely person that speech therapist is. It is so difficult to find compassionate care these days, or even competent care without compassion. Sigh.
I believe that everything she told you is true. There is nothing intrinsically "wrong" with Max, and he will speak when he is ready to.
I loved that guy's anecdote. "Don't be ridiculous!" sounds like a perfectly reasonable thing to say under certain circumstances, and I am glad to hear that the man in question is now leading a normal, productive life.
Hang in there. It will all be okay, eventually. Sending you love, and wishing you the gifts of patience, wisdom, and acceptance per the old tried (and sometimes, trite) and true Serenity Prayer.
