Man, that is such bullshit. The reason why things like the wedding industry exist is because of a complex mixture of the capitalist nature of our society as well as the dominant discourse of our culture. If the current dominant position in the sexual hierarchy right now is heterosexuality, then of course there will be a majority of television shows and money-making industries that feed into that popular discourse. It's not about causing the subordination of women. If anything, they are drawing upon pre-existing cultural norms that happen to subjugate women because of the already-in-place gender hierarchy that is replicated and maintained in thousands of cultural structures. It's like saying that advertising causes women to have a subordinate role in society. Pfft, as if it were all that linear and easy. GOD DAMMIT I AM SO FREAKING OVERWORKED!
