Interstingly, the computer was often used as a metaphor to try to understand memory - i.e. you have a file (memory) in a file folder on the hard drive (long term memory). when you pull up the file and use it RAM is at work (working memory). As the understanding of memory evolved, this metahpor no longer applied b/c memories actually change because rather than being permanently stored in a location in the brain, their patterns are actually recreated each time they are recalled. So in fact, they can actually change each time they are recalled. Anyway, I find it interesting that as our understanding of the brain evolves so do computers. I love how the internet is one giant evolving neural net.
