We have learned nothing as a nation

How can we possibly elect an African-American to the presidency and legalize discrimination on the same night?! Have we learned nothing as a nation? I have gay and lesbian friends. If they love each other, they should have the right to marry. I was listening to reaction on the radio yesterday and I had to turn it off because I became so angry ( Read more... )

Oh yeah, the LDS pumped millions of dollars into the campaign. That is one of the beefs, that churches and out of state interest groups were the ones really fueling this in the state. *sigh*

I've always said churches who do this should be forced to start paying taxes. F'real.

From the horses mouth, it's because marriage was created solely for male/female man/wife bonds and allowing gay marriages would be a denigration to the state of marriage*. It's another way of forcing religion down everyone's throats whether they like it or not. You would that people would be glad that homosexuals were forming monogamous bonds as opposed to changing partners constantly. It pisses me off that they accept being gay as a "biological glich" on the one hand, and then say, but oh, because you have this "defect" we're going to discriminate against you. That's like saying a physically handicapped person shouldn't have the same rights as those of us without handicaps.

*not my opinion, k? Just telling you what I heard.

Totally. In my opinion, if people want to get married, let them get married. I love the way they oppose gay marriage, because it's something they say God dissaproves of, and ignore that so many marriages between men and women that literally go to hell, in their own churches. *sigh* Not everyone, mind you, but in my experience, the ones that are the most fervent about this tend to be blind to so many other, totally obvious, things...

Did you see the Daily Show bit on that (Nov 6)?

*applaudes*

I can't believe it, either.

I don't see why people thing gay marriage threatens hetero marriage. Especially with idiots like Newt Gingrich on his third marriage, Rudy Giuliani moving his mistress into the mansion while his cancer-ridden wife was upstairs, and Britney Spears' 24 hour marriage.

If two people love each other, who cares? I've always believed people are born gay. I'm not sure it's ever a choice, unless they choose to live hetero out of fear of discrimination.

Just, word, dude.

As Sprootles pointed out, there are abominations of hetero-marriage a-plenty, so why is that ok? It's not, yet it's accepted.

Ugh, this topic just makes me despair of the mindset against homosexuality in this country. Not bashing anyone's beliefs (because I am agnostic and think folks can believe in whatever they wish - I just don't understand it!), but conservative religion is entirely to blame for this, imo, and that disgusts me.
