( Rose wasn't sure what she should say. She wanted to apologize for taking advantage of him, for using him to make herself feel better, for falling in love with John Smith and being disloyal to the Doctor, but it felt wrong. How could she apologize for something she didn't entirely regret? )

Och, this is heartbreaking. I just don't have any words to say how sad it is, that discrepancy between John's promises and the Doctor's practicality. Hasn't he learned anything about Rose that he goes breaking her heart like this?

I'll try to be patient while I wait for the next installment.

Awww, I'm sorry that you're finding it so heartbreaking. For what it's worth, I don't think he's breaking her heart on purpose. I think he's a wee bit heartbroken himself. I mean, he has three years of memories of her in love with someone else in his head...that's got to hurt a bit :(

I will be back quicker next time, I promise! :) The next chapter is one of my favorites, so I'm eager to see what y'all think :)

This is the first time I've commented on this story and I'm really sorry about that because I've developed quite the habit of checking regularly if this story has been updated because I'm hooked.

I love the tension you are creating with them as their roles are slightly reversed this time around because the Doctor seems to be trying to get Rose to talk about her time with John Smith and Rose is deflecting as good as he has ever done with her. It's fun and more than a little romantic/hot when he tells her point blank that he remembers everything as John Smith, including falling in love and being married to her. A sort of heartbreaking kind of seduction on both their parts.

Excellent story.

Aww, thanks so much for coming out of lurkdom to say something! That really means a lot to me. I have a tendency to be a lurker as well, so I totally understand! But I love hearing from you :)

I really love your description of it as a "heartbreaking kind of seduction". That's a great way to describe it. Thank you :) And yeah, figuring out communication is a whole lot harder than normal for them in this situation, I think. Neither of them know where they stand with the other, and so they keep skirting around the problem. At least they're finally STARTING to talk a bit.

Thank you! I'm so glad you're still enjoying this!! I think your suspicions are very insightful ;) lol. But of course, neither of them seem to really have any idea how the other feels. They're kinda clueless like that. Silly Doctor and Rose.
