I would bet there were time constraints and it wasn't Hicks' idea to cut the last two verses.

When you are celebrating the nations birthday, its always a good idea to leave off the last two verses. He could have sang it backwards and it still would have sounded good. Just wish he would have taken more time for the harmonica at the end. He did a fantastic job. Love him.

I don't think 99% of America has ever heard of, or knows, the last two verses. This song is older than probably everyone in the audience. And I agree, the time restraints were in place. Taylor did a fantastic job with it and was definitely a highlight for me.

It was a lowlight for American folk music.

99% of America doesn't know the last two versus because douchebag ideologues have co-opted a protest song and turned it into a mushball "Ain't 'Mericuh Byootful" song.

Not that there's anything wrong with songs that describe the beauty of America. "America The Beautiful", for instance, is a great song. And you don't have to chop off any verses.

What the hell is wrong with you the song the way you heard it was the way he was asked to sing it.....Who’s the tool now?

Well, singing it the way he was asked to sing it is exactly what makes him a tool. Do I know you? Why are you commenting on my internet?

Be more open-minded...Taylor is an awesome performer and he always does great, as he did on the 4th. If you let him, Taylor will always brighten your day!

This "Taylor Hicks"...he has fans?
I'd never heard of him until that 4th of July fiasco. I looked him up because so many people were commenting on my internet. Turns out he was on some game show. Who knew?

I don't give a shit about Hicks, really. It's the truncation of the meaningful lyrics in a classic American folk protest song that bugs me.
