The Messenger [5/7]

“Anyone there?”
Changmin’s voice echoes down the empty hallway.
Changmin looks at his messenger. No, he has not experienced any sort of time travelling. Changmin rubs his eyes. No, he is not dreaming.
Today is January 7th. Changmin wakes up to a silent dorm which should be bustling with noise and chatter.
Thinking it must be a prank, Changmin messages all four of them. Their things are still in place, so they must be coming back, Changmin reassure himself.
Changmin goes to university with an empty stomach, he is already late for his morning lecture. His stomach growls with unaccustomed hunger.
Throughout the day Changmin’s messenger does not beep to signify an incoming message.
At night, Changmin searches the dorm for a note or any message that may have information on the four’s whereabouts.
Nothing.
Changmin goes to sleep early that night, something that has not happened ever since he moved into the dorm. (The candles lay unlighted.) He tries to ignore the bitter acid of abandonment and betrayal swishing in his stomach.
Thus the days of solitude turn into weeks.
Changmin tries to tell himself that he should be accustomed to this, because that is how he lived before he knew them.
Changmin moves back into his small shabby apartment, the dorm reminding him too much of the missing four. The memories are suffocating him, shoving right into his face, a past he can no longer return to, because in the end, he can never maintain relationships. He will always be tossed and thrown away like a worn out toy.
Changmin decides that friendships in general are not his thing.
