I came up with the idea for this story during the sga_flashfic "Earthside" challenge, but then I thought "Nah...."

Which goes to show that in this fandom, you should always write your flashfic ideas before the show writers get to it first. (You hear that,

oh, nice little look in at his past. Plus the calm quietness of it works really well, as does the dreaded Betsy.

very smooth and sublte and finely done. I really liked the understated elegance of it.

I liked all the little ways Marie *knew* John:
John had the wide-eyed, too-guileless look he got when he was bored or fucking with someone. “Really,” he said. “I had no idea a bake sale would be that much work.”

and

“Lieutenant Colonel.”
He puffed up a little when she said it, not even consciously, and she shook her head in amazement. “Your father would be very proud of you, John.”

“He’d tell me it’s a long way to full bird, is what he’d do,” John snorted, but there was something in his eyes that said he needed to hear that, from someone who’d know. Maybe that was why he’d come all this way. “Thanks.”

my favorite lines... they're *so* John Sheppard...

Yeah, I imagine that anyone who was married to John would develop a catalogue of his expressions pretty quickly. The "half-constipated look" he gets when he's trying to express his emotions elsewhere in the story is, I must admit, also a favorite of mine.

I'm glad you liked the story!

Well, canonically, John has been attracted to strong women (Chaya, and depending on how you read canon, Teyla). He also surrounds himself in general with strong-willed straight-shooters -- Ronon, Teyla again, Rodney to a certain extent. People do tend to have a type!

If you were saying that, I would say: thank you! I look forward to your John's-ex story myself; there cannot be enough!
