I have not posted here in a very long time. So I got a new computer and it is v. fast and it has a good graphics card and power supply and yada yada. however! Once I got it all set up I discovered Windows 8 and none of the sims games apparently like each other. TS2 supposedly won't install at all (I haven't tried) and I am extremely unhappy about ( Read more... )

Oh noes! I think AlfredAskew is going to try ts2 in Windows 8, I wonder if you could pool your resources and figure something out together?
Or just keep on playing WoW, I bet it's fantastic on your new computer <3

Yes, actually I saw that post by Alfi and wanted to ask her how she managed it, because I feel like she could explain it in ways I could understand. At this rate, the VM thing is a little complicated for me because it wants me to install another OS and I only have my old XP disc with no product key so it is giving me a hard time. Agh. I would like to play sims 2 a lot and use all the lovely things you have shared lately but at this rate I might end up sticking with WoW for a little bit, it is running fantastically with max graphics.

Hurricane Taylor has apparently found a workaround:

I hope it works for you as well!

I used this method too on my windows 8 computer and it runs great. I installed Mansion and Garden first so everything was updated already and it all worked.

Sorry, I am trying with the VM thing now and I'm feeling technically challenged today so I just want to make sure I'm getting it right. You installed the sims games in order onto the VMware (minus M&G)? and then installed M&G to your windows 8 pc, copied the files from the VM (program files or??) to the windows 8 portion, then went back and installed all the games over it? Did you have to do basegame and up, and did you do Mansions and Gardens again? In hurricane taylor's post they mention only installing university and up? I don't know. Sorry for so many questions, I usually understand technical stuff better than this. :[

I had the same questions, actually. I posted my question on hurricanetaylor's post, and they responded if you'd like to see (click curiousb's link).

I am very happy to hear from you, and I do hope you get to play your game again!

If you really really dislike windows 8, you could probably install windows 7 instead. If you do figure this out, I'd be interested as I was considering getting windows 8 myself.

Is there a way I could downgrade to Windows 7 without buying it? Because my old PC was still on windows XP and I don't have the product key or anything for it anymore. This is a little frustrating.

My google search would suggest that you can:
http://lifehacker.com/5974318/downgrade-your-new-windows-8-computer-to-windows-7-for-free
But it seems that you need to have windows 8 pro to do so.
(that is just the first link I saw, so maybe the others will be different)

that sucks! i hope you get it to work. i heard windows 8 was kind of a nightmare to deal with but i didn't know it affected simming, too. :( i'm just playing it with a shitty graphics card and no CC right now but anything is better than nothing if you're having sim withdrawals haha. do you think you'd ever try ts3? or have you already?

alexis! i am happy to see a post and comment from you, i haven't talked to you in forever. ah. i have been reading your posts but i am super bad at replying. hope things go good with the house, that is exciting.

ah, yeah, well from what i am now reading i guess deluxe will install but regular base game is where the problems arise? luckily i have deluxe so i am going to try it out. i don't really care for windows 8 anyway, no start button is seriously upsetting me. yeah, i was even thinking of just playing base game if the installs wont work but i would miss pets and stuff. i actually have ts3 and most of the first few expansions, and before my computer didn't really like it, my graphics were too bad. then last night i installed the base game and was playing it and... i really don't like it. i like some parts like moodlets and wishes and all the sliders but idk i guess i just much much prefer ts2 for various reasons. i also found all my ts1 discs so if worst comes to worst i could always just go that route, haha.

I think I actually have it sorted out! I've even played and posted some shots, but this will be very handy to have incase I need to do a reinstall at some point (which will hopefully not happen but I know TS2 better than that).

I appreciate all your help and you thinking of me for that link. You are always the nicest and most helpful person. <3

I'm so glad to hear it is working, and I will read your picspam asap!

Thank you so much! I just felt so sorry that you could not play even though you wanted to. It really makes me happy to know it is working now. <3
