It seems to me that viewers who choose the "hyper-real worlds" are just as intent on avoiding real intimacy as the folks described in the quote from your essay. In both cases, it seems that there is an underlying shame and a resulting attempt to engage in relationships with at least some element of artificiality in them. The Falcon viewer watches an unattainable world, while the submissive folks in the essay take active measures to ensure that they have sex with people who are completely unlike them, indeed they try to make themselves almost less than human.

As for whether one is worse than the other... At least the Falcon viewer may be abe to engage in healthy relationships, with the videos as just a form of entertainment. The folks from the essay are clearly manifesting some significant problems, no doubt caused by some trauma history earlier in their lives.

You bastard. You just HAD to drag my boyfriend into this, didn't you??

Oh sorry. Our boyfriend.

But yeah, actually I only agree on his criticism of Falcon, because a lot of Titan can be downright nasty. Sometimes it's hot, like when Johnny Hazzard is getting rimmed by a growling muscledaddy. But sometimes it's just absurd. Like for example...spitting everywhere. It's in half the porn I download nowadays. CccthappuutttSPLAT != hot.

I <3 Johnny Hazzard. He ish so adorable. :D

Hyper-realities can be fun, though, as long as you're not overly illusioned about them. =p

And I totally agree on spitting. -__- I do not get it.
